Hello Linux users
My kernel just gave me a Panic on my SMP box, /usr mounted over NFS.
I got this message on my console:
---SNIP Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 20000030 current->tss.cr3 = 00101000, %cr3 = 00101000 *pde = 00000000 Oops: 0000 CPU: 1 EIP: 0010:[<c0181b1c>] EFLAGS: 00010206 eax: cbd00000 ebx: 20000000 ecx: c022e980 edx: 00000000 esi: 00000001 edi: 00000013 ebp: 000156ca esp: cbffbf14 ds: 0018 es: 0018 ss: 0018 Process swapper (pid: 0, process nr: 1, stackpage=cbffb000) Stack: 00000013 009b5697 00000000 c0181f4e c0239670 00000000 c0181f1c 00000097 cbffbf58 c01140ee 00000000 00000001 c027e020 00000004 00000001 c022608c cbffbf7c cbffbf74 c011b0f5 cbffbf7c cbffa000 c027c8a0 c010b6ea cbffa000 Call Trace: [<c0181f4e>] [<c0181f1c>] [<c01140ee>] [<c011b0f5>] [<c010b6ea>] [<c010a1a8>] [<c01079a1>] [<c011b0f5>] [<c010b6ea>] [<c010a1a8>] Code: 8b 43 30 85 c0 0f 85 f2 00 00 00 8a 43 77 84 c0 0f 84 e7 00 Aiee, killing interrupt handler Kernel panic: Attempted to kill idle task! In interrupt handler - not syncing ---SNIP
My system is a dual Celeron-300@450, one IDE disk (VA34323A), two Ethernet cards (via-rhine and 3c509B), SoundBlaster AWE64, one SCSI controller (53c875) with a Plextor CD-ROM, and a MATUSHITA CD-Writer, my graphics card is a Creative Voodoo Banshee.
I mount /usr and /home from another box thru a 100Mbit full-duplex line over the via-rhine card (had some bad problems with the 3c905B and a RTL8139), use NYS/NIS over the same line for passwd/gruop. Generaly the NFS link has been badly broken! (Using the userland NFS deamon) And I suspect I have some bad Ethernet cards on the server.
The Oops happend when I telnetede in from a third box thru the 3c905B card, and did a 'man something' but I can't recreate it. The box had been up around 20 hours when the panic happend (I have just installed Slackware 7.0 to get glibc2.1.2), but have had uptimes in the past around 10 days with a load of 2 (running rc5des).
The drivers for the Ethernet cards are the latest beta drivers, since I had some troubles with the kernel drivers.
If you need any more info I'll be HAPPY to supply it.
Mvh.
