If you think it sounds cool in theory, try watching it in action. The kernel support is in 2.3, and there is a simple static http server demo of the user-mode code in
http://people.redhat.com/zab/phhttpd/
It's just a demonstration-of-concept in its current form, but the performance results are rather nice.
