Today I decided to try and get to the bottom of some ext2 corruption I have noticed under 2.2.12, 2.2.13, 2.3.23, 2.3.24, but not under 2.3.20. I noticed the first questionable events in the system logs below (first under light use, and then when ripping a cd.) I am running a AMD 3DII-300 128m RH6.0+ box with two ide drives: hda(FUJITSU MPD3084AT, 8063MB w/512kB Cache, CHS=1027/255/63, UDMA(33)) and hdc(FUJITSU MPD3043AT, 4125MB w/512kB Cache, CHS=8940/15/63, UDMA(33)) on differnt ide channels; the CD is on the second ide channel. ----------- Oct 25 14:37:21 darklands kernel: Linux version 2.3.23 (root@darklands.zimres.net) (gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990 314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)) #1 Mon Oct 25 00:57:51 MST 1999 [snip to errors] Oct 26 03:24:53 darklands kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device Oct 26 03:24:53 darklands kernel: 03:05: rw=0, want=336438042, limit=2048256 Oct 26 03:24:53 darklands kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device Oct 26 03:24:53 darklands kernel: 03:05: rw=0, want=336438042, limit=2048256 Oct 26 03:24:53 darklands kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device Oct 26 03:24:53 darklands kernel: 03:05: rw=0, want=336438042, limit=2048256 Oct 26 03:24:53 darklands kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device Oct 26 03:24:53 darklands kernel: 03:05: rw=0, want=336438042, limit=2048256 Oct 26 03:24:53 darklands kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device Oct 26 03:24:53 darklands kernel: 03:05: rw=0, want=336438042, limit=2048256 Oct 26 03:24:53 darklands kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device Oct 26 03:24:53 darklands kernel: 03:05: rw=0, want=336438042, limit=2048256 Oct 26 03:24:53 darklands kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device Oct 26 03:24:53 darklands kernel: 03:05: rw=0, want=336438042, limit=2048256 Oct 26 03:24:53 darklands kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device Oct 26 03:24:53 darklands kernel: 03:05: rw=0, want=336438042, limit=2048256 Oct 26 03:24:54 darklands kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device Oct 26 03:24:54 darklands kernel: 03:05: rw=0, want=336438042, limit=2048256 Oct 26 03:24:54 darklands kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device Oct 26 03:24:54 darklands kernel: 03:05: rw=0, want=336438042, limit=2048256 Oct 26 03:24:54 darklands kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device Oct 26 03:24:54 darklands kernel: 03:05: rw=0, want=336438042, limit=2048256 [snip to next reboot and rip of cd] Oct 26 16:04:25 darklands kernel: Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.05 Oct 26 16:07:09 darklands kernel: EXT2-fs error (device ide1(22,1)): ext2_check_blocks_bitmap: Wrong free blocks c ount for group 432, stored = 0, counted = 4 Oct 26 16:07:10 darklands kernel: EXT2-fs error (device ide1(22,1)): ext2_check_blocks_bitmap: Wrong free blocks c ount in super block, stored = 1563459, counted = 1563463 Oct 26 17:56:31 darklands kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device Oct 26 17:56:31 darklands kernel: 03:09: rw=0, want=268956213, limit=2048256 Oct 26 18:08:59 darklands kernel: EXT2-fs error (device ide0(3,1)): ext2_find_entry: bad entry in directory #22089 : inode out of bounds - To test, I used this nice little command to hammer the ide drives: [qubes@darklands qubes]$while true; do tar c mp3/ > /mnt/backup/test.file; md5sum /mnt/backup/test.file; done;
Which seems to work well for large amounts of access. BTW: /home/qubes/mp3 is on the second drive, and /mnt/backup is a 2gig partition on the first dirve. More info available on request.
