You are the fifth to remind me of the blessings of inode timestamps. Unfortunately, their usefulness is severely limited by tools like (tc)grep. (Especially 'tcgrep something .' which is used a lot here). If I thought this could be done in userspace, I wouldn't have posted this patch, but I don't think it's possible.
