I have run into some problems that are somewhat similar, but much, much
more fun. I can burn CDs with 2.0.36 just fine, and I used the
2.2.0-pre5 for a few burns just fine... but my HP 7110i cd-rw drive(s)
seem to stop working after a few short months. I start getting little
problems, like the drive needs to have a blank cd re-inserted a few
times before it sees it, proceeding to making coasters and then flat out
not working for reading or writing. I'm on my 3rd warranty-replaced
7110i drive in less than a year. The results are very inconsistent-
sometimes the drive works flawlessly, other times it pukes. It does not
seem to matter if I'm using the system at the time. It's not an
environmental condition local to the computer- I've tried the drive(s)
in three seperate systems, all with the same outcome. I'm just guessing
that HP had a really bad drive design team, but if anyone finds evidence
that this is caused by cdrecord or the kernel- let me know.
