The the kernel was changed in 2.1.119 (or 118?) in a way which breaks the
pcmcia package - the 119 patch introduced a new field into struct
file_operations - have a look at the patch, and then insert a NULL in a
suitable place in the f_ops.

Your other problem with umounting / is probably related - oopses tend
to cause things like that. If you can fix pcmcia-cs, it'll probably go
away...
