It definitly locks hard. I have tried it a number of times, and one time recompiled the kernel and rebooted while I was sleeping, and 8 hours later it was still locked in the same spot.
I was able to get it up by moving PS/2 mouse support into the kernel instead of having it as a module. Yet that makes no sense to me.
