| |
With the update in the IDE-Driver that I provide for 2.1.122, I am looking for the following errors and reports.
Improper boot order of drives.
I know of two cases at the present time. One of these mainboards apparently splits the IDE PIIX3 controller from the HOST and BRIDGE on the 430HX chipset. The other mainboard has not been reported yet.
Normally the on-board IDE controller is assigned a pci-bus number smaller than the pci-slots; however, the case above breaks this rule.
The first fix to try is adding to the append line in your /etc/lilo.conf "pci=reverse". This should insure that the on-board controller is scanned first. This fix is used only if you have an add-on ide-pci card that is considered bootable. Both of the following fall into this catagory.
PDC20246: Promise Technology IDE UltraDMA/33 AEC6210: Artop Electronics ATP850UF
If the "pci=reverse" fails, then I will need to added a patch to toggle ON/OFF Board PCI-IDE booting order. This was held back to prevent some extra kernel bloat.
The other error that has popped up in the past prior to the changes in 2.1.122, related to ide-probing, ide-cd, and ide-floppy errors. CDROM DMA transfer errors are something of interest, but not addressed by the latest changes.
