This sounds like a very interesting possibility, could give rise to hyper cheap networks, even if slow. There is also the possibility of networking something like a VIC-20 using the effort already placed in the cassette driver and the effort placed in a PC sound card network driver to allow a VIC-20 to run Linux across a LAN/WAN/Internet.

Just incase anyone is really bored, how about a network driver that uses sound cards to communicate. This would have the benefit of testing these parts of the kernel quite hard :-)
