Hello,
I have a strange problem with my NE2000 PCI card (Realtek 8029), which is probably not strictly kernel related, but hopefully someone can recommend a work-around.
I have Linux and Windows 98 installed on one and the same machine. I set up several possibilities to boot into Linux: LiLo, Loadlin from Windows' Bootmenu (ie before actually booting Windows) and Loadlin from within Windows (starting Loadlin within a .bat file configured for "true" MS-DOS mode). The ne2k-pci is autodetected by the kernel (2.0.35 as well as 2.1.119) with io=0xd000 and irq=10, when booting Linux with the first or second method as described above. However, if I want to use the third method, the kernel can't detect the card and specifying io and irq as command line options doesn't help. (Well, if I remember correctly, no commandline options are allowed at all for this driver). When I use kernel 2.0.35 it complains about the io setting being '0x0', when I use kernel 2.1.119 it says that the irq number is 0, which "is unlikely to work".
Any ideas for a workaround? Is it somehow possible to "initialize" or reset the PCI Bios without actually resetting the machine?
Thanks,
Ulf
