I had this very problem of 2068 bytes/sector.

This is an OEM lowlevel format only. This was verified by comparing and
switching drive control boards with my 2068 and a standard 512 drive.
Since the 512 drive with my drive control board still reported correct,
we determined that it was an OEM lowlevel format.

We first stripped the lowlevel drivers by connecting it to a Macintosh,
but this was over-kill. The better solution was to use an Adaptec
3940/2940-UW3, and have the controller redo the lowlevel format.

After that was done approx. 3 hours later (well 6, since we did it twice)
everything was happy..........
Cheers,
Andre
