You should not compile 2.0.xx kernels with anything but gcc-2.7.2.x, there
are several known areas where the kernel depends on the compiler not doing
several optimizations, or depends on gcc brokenness. The number of unknown
spots where this is the case is probably way larger, and nobody is willing
to put in the work to test the whole thing with 2.2 around the corner.
