I just compiled pre-112-2 + your patch, it seems perfectly stable now. I had three consoles running "while true; do find .; done" in /usr/src/linux. It was a bit jerky but seemed faster than 2.0.X, I will benchmark tonight if I get the chance.
pre-112-2 (+ your patch) seems to be reluctant to switch to vt0. Pressing Alt-F1 from another vt removes the cursor but doesn't switch screens. Pressing a key will force the screen change. Then sometimes it won't switch away from vt0 either. Switching between vts 1-5 (at least) seems unaffected (i.e. works fine).
