I've had similar problems with an ASUS SP98 AGP-X board (SiS5591). The funny thing was that win95/98 and winNT had no problems while Linux and MS-DOS5.0 had. After moving the harddisk to the secondary controller (hdc) and the CD-ROM to the first (hda) the problems vanished and all works fine including UDMA with the Jumbo-Patch (2.0.35)
