Not really surprising that their would be problems when overclocking.
Anyway, for a couterpoint, I have no problems whatsoever with my WDC drive, `Model=WDC AC36400L, FwRev=09.09M08, SerialNo=WD-WT420' (a 6.4 GB drive), on a Gigabyte GA-586ATX MB, running UDMA.
