Hi,
Been booting 2.1.111 with 4Mb to see what it can do. Managed to edit a picture in GIMP under X at 1280x1024x16bpp ;-)
Not what I'd call snappy in the response department, though. Oh for modular ipv4 -- that would save me a few 100k and give 20% more pages in the swappable pool :)
Anyway after messing with the system a bit, I did "modprobe bttv". Not a good move. Cue
i2c: unregister_bus #1: bus not found: bt848-0 Kernel panic: vfd: bad unregister [hang]
Reproducible.
Guesswork suggests its some kind of allocation failure, or maybe physically contigous allocation failure, which exposes a bug in the error recovery path. Maybe even a missed error check ;-)
Anyway I think it's back to 64Mb because I want to watch TV!!
