I think it is important that linux not be compromised just to run on legacy hardware. There are fast stable versions which run on older boxes now and are fine for tasks such as routers. I don't think it fair to complain at this date in time that the latest kernel will not run optimum on < 16 meg. This should not be the target machine in MHO.
