Can we not use a b&w bitmap and twiddle the font when the kernel inits? That way, it call all be marked __initdata and not be considered unnecessary bloat.
Restoring the font when init execs of course, by which time, the logo will probably have scrolled off. (Well, my fairly minimalist kernel blots out 90 or so lines).
