This works 100% for me on my 486 machine; I'm using a 132x43 text console with v2.1.109. Graphic card is a VLB Cirrus 5429 2MB card. On the other hand, my Pentium P75 at work is broken much the same way as he describes i.e, doesn't offer anything >80 columns - it uses an ATI VideoExpress (shite card anyway).
