I did a 2.1.10x patch to deal with this (on linux-patches and I believe
in Alan's patchkit) which could easily be backported to 2.0.3x but...

...the question is do we really want to be changing the (documented)
behaviour of a 2.0.x kernel in this respect, even if the change is
for the better? I'm not so sure.

Oh, be careful with drivers like the hp100 - it does isa probing as well.
