[This is my final post on this topic, because it has almost nothing to do with the Linux kernel. It really belongs on gnu.misc.discuss, for those who still want to continue it]
There has been some discussion of why Motif should qualify for the GPL "major component of the OS" exception, and Qt should not. They have a list at www.kde.org of what OS distributions include KDE (and, I would guess, Qt). There are some major free Unix distributions on that list:
S.u.S.E 5.2 Caldera 1.2 Both major PowerPC distributions FreeBSD 2.2.6
There are also 9 less well known distributions listed.
