Hi Tom,
Thanks for helping track this mysterious bug. The log messages confirm that the writable pages really are in the swap cache; it's not just a matter of the swap cache flag being set.
I haven't been able to figure out _how_ this can happen, but will do some more code review and try to spot the problem.With that many pages in the writable-swap cache state, the swapping process would become a little constipated, so it's not surprising that your system was behaving poorly.
