I had similar problems with several 34-prexx.
Problem went away when I disabled wide negotiation for non-wide devices
(CD-ROM, CD-Writer & tape) directly from BIOS.
While I still consider this behaviour a driver failure I can use the syatem
with no visible glitch and I'm quite happy with it.
