I am trying to compile a 2.0.34 kernel on a RedHat-5.1 Alpha-Linux box. The kernel RedHat ships boots just fine, but when i build my new one, using the standard make mrproper ; make config ; make dep ; make clean ; make boot, I then copy the kernel from /usr/src/linux/arch/alpha/boot/vmlinux.gz to /, and then reboot the systems doesn't boot. However, I get the message that the kernel was unable to mount the root filesystem on 08:03. This is indeed the correct major/minor number, and I did compile in both SCSI support and ext2 fs support, and the kernel is monolithic. Am I forgetting something stupid here, or what?
