I've just compiled 2.1.107 with Framebuffer (!!) enabled in a SMP machine, and after rebooting all I get is that funny LILO message Loading test..... then te screen scrolls up (more or less in the same way it did it with other kernels, but doesn't print anything, and the it just hangs, as after rebooting with 2.1.106-ac4 my partitions were not checked I suppose it hanged before mounting them, although I don't know if it was before or after init.
PS: What about including the joystick-1.2.x series in the development kernel? 1.2.6 is pretty stable and works better than 0.x
