That should not be too much a problem, since X restores the vga registers after its vt is switched to (and every program that doesn't do that I consider broken). What will be a greater problem is the hardware drivers, since writing the image to disk requires use of the drivers and thus changes registers, which, of course, reside in that memory, so the drivers need to made aware of that.
