I am using dhcpcd (not dhcpd) version 1.3.6 with 2.1 .. it works quite well but its behaviour has changed slightly. It no longer takes a '-c' argument. Now, it returns 0 or 1 depending on whether it succeeded and only goes in to the background if it succeeded. So you don't run it as a daemon... it will take care of that itself:
