I have similar problems with the 5.0.18 aic7xxx driver in 2.1.104 through 106-ac1. Going back to 5.0.13 fixes it. The symptom is endless bus rescanning at boot time, making further booting rather impossible. This is on a Compaq Deskpro 6000 with one ultra-narrow drive on the bus (messages from 2.1.106ac1 with the 5.0.13 driver): ------------------------------------------------------------------------- aic7xxx: Warning - detected auto-termination on controller: aic7xxx: <Adaptec AHA-294X Ultra SCSI host adapter> at PCI 14/0 aic7xxx: Please verify driver detected settings are correct. aic7xxx: If not, then please properly set the device termination aic7xxx: in the Adaptec SCSI BIOS by hitting CTRL-A when prompted aic7xxx: during machine bootup. aic7xxx: Cables present (Int-50 YES, Ext-50 NO) aic7xxx: Termination Enabled (scsi0) <Adaptec AHA-294X Ultra SCSI host adapter> found at PCI 14/0 (scsi0) Narrow Channel, SCSI ID=7, 16/255 SCBs (scsi0) BIOS enabled, IO Port 0x1000, IRQ 9 (scsi0) IO Memory at 0x40080000, MMAP Memory at 0xc680a000 (scsi0) Downloading sequencer code... 413 instructions downloaded scsi0 : Adaptec AHA274x/284x/294x (EISA/VLB/PCI-Fast SCSI) 5.0.13/3.2.4 <Adaptec AHA-294X Ultra SCSI host adapter> scsi : 1 host. I also tried futzing around with different termination (and other) options in the card config, but nothing I did could change the perpetual busrescan behavior, so I set things back to where they were and went back to the 5.0.13 driver.
