This is always fun, finding these bugs that are damned near untraceable.
Here's what syslog had to say.

Fun, huh? Was using mc to copy a file from hdb2 to sda1. sda1 hasn't been fscked in about a month. The second mc's mv call wrote EOF, *BING!* The box just black screened and went to POST. I was running one IRC session, a couple tf sessions, two copies of mc (one in /usr/src as I sorted that mess out, the other in ~irc:). Any ideas? When I ran fsck, hdb1 was a total mess, I held down y for almost 10 minutes. hdb2 was worse. sda1 was about half as bad. All are fine now, reporting clean after a few fscks. I SUSPECT it was existing corruption on sda1, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?
