Same here,

System PII 266
AOpen LX440 Motherboard
192M Ram

I replaced arch/i386/kernel/io_apic.c and arch/i386/kernel/irq.c with
the ones from the 2.1.102 kernel source and it fixed the problem. It
booted anyway, and is showing no signs of trouble, to the best of my
knowledge.

Compiled it earlier on a P200MMX and didn't have any problems.
If that means anything.
