Read the drivers/scsi/README.aic7xxx file. In there it details the use of an option called reverse_probe (or something like that) which handles this case for you. Note, the ordering should be correct on the new driver, and wrong on the old driver, only a few BIOSes do descending instead of ascending PCI scans.
