Printk already handles strings that start with <x> specially.
As for prettying up the messages, it would be an improvement if the output messages were restricted to 80 characters per line. The wrapping looks kinda sloppy, and should cost nothing to fix. If the tools that printed the messages were to be a little bit more careful, things would look better.
