FWIW: If you are referring to the vortex cards as "old" cards, I have to
say that even 0.46C is too new. Just two days ago we had this famous
network lockup with a 3c595 and driver version 0.46C.

From my experience the last version that is stable with vortex cards is
0.42 (we're using this combination in several servers). For "new" cards
(boomerang, cyclones) use the newest driver available.
