Either one will work. I would recommend to at least start with 2.0.x so
that you have a stable system while you find the 2.1.x kernel that works
best for you

The 2940UW is supported; I dunno about the 2940U2W. You would have to
ask Doug Ledford - he is the maintainer of the Adaptec aic7xxx driver for
Linux. I believe his email is dledford@dialnet.net.

The better people to ask would be the XFree86 Group at
