2.1.90 <-ppp over modem-> 2.0.32 <-ethernet-> 2.0.29
a direct tcp link from the newest kernel to the oldest gives horrible interactive performance -- it's as if something is waiting on a timer before being able to make a round trip. Using two tcp links to span the distance works around the problem.
Is this a known bug with one or more of the implementations? [yeah, I need to get around to upgrading those boxes, but right now I don't understand what's going on, and there are a lot of variables.]
Yes, known bug in 2.1.x up until 2.1.91 I believe, upgrade and interactive performance will go back to normal even to 2.0.x boxen.
