SubjectRe: [kinda offtopic] cable modems under linux?
In my area, cable modems have an RJ45 Ethernet connector. As such they
work with any OS/platform that supports 10baseT ethernet (and TCP-IP
obviously).

Of course you can do neat tricks such as address translation/proxying with
Linux but that's a separate issue.
