Try cat some.au > /dev/dsp and then check your /var/log/messages (this setup may be redhat specific, I don't know). Do you see something about DMA DRQ or IRQ timeout? If so I have the same problem. It exists in 2.1.91 .92 .94 .96. It doesn't in .88 and .86. I have a genuine SB16 ASP (one of the very first ones). It seems most people's similar problem is caused by the PARPORT and PARIDE (or so I have been told) stuff. Try compiling without them or with them as modules. If this works for you I will be shocked (honestly) because it didn't for me, but if it does I would love to know, if not, I now know I am not stark raving mad. Note, I have tried both irq 5 and 7. Other than that, I think my settings are identical to yours. Also as a side note, what kind of hardware or software failures cause bus faults and sig 11 (I have had about three of each in the last few days... my hardware has NEVER given me a problem with any kernels, save the SB16 with the 2.1.9x series.) Also, how would I test it. I have heard overheating CPU, memory, and failing powersupply blamed... how do I determine which it is? (CPU is Intel Pentium 133Mhz, Memory is lifetime warantee, CPU and Powersupply have about 8 months left on the warantee).
