Maybe we could solve it by making LILO search for the correct partition using some kind of signatures, but anyway we probably don't want to force people to upgrade LILO or any other loader they use. Anyway, we'll probably need some backward-incompatible change in 2.3 times to clean up passing of options between boot loader and kernel (including longer command lines) and we can then try to solve the boot disk problem as well.
