SubjectDMA on CMD646 went away in 2.1.9x series?
My 2.1.88 kernel supports DMA on IDE disks, while the 2.1.96
protests the hdparm command with the following.

setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
using_dma = 0 (off).

On boot, my 2.1 88 kernel printed the following

CMD646: IDE controller on PCI bus 0 function 104
PCI->APIC IRQ transform: (B0,I13,P0) -> -1
CMD646: not 100% native mode - will probe irq's later
ide0: BM-DMA at 0xf000-0xf007, BIOS settings: hda: pio hdb:
pio

while the 2.1.95 kernel prints

CMD646: ignored by ide_scan_pci_device() (uses own driver).

I tried to enable the CMD640 extensions in the config file.
The CMD646 driver seems to be just an init for a sparc?

Please tell me how to enable the correct driver to enable
DMA transfers.

Thanks
don
