All hail Linux.
All 2.1.xx kernels I've managed to compile hang completely during bootup, immediately after uncompressing. I added some trace messages to main() and apparently it hangs with extreme prejudice whenever it tries to parse the append line:
<taken from /etc/lilo.conf>
# Development kernel image = /vmlinuz.dev root = /dev/hda2 label = devlinux append="hisax=3,2,9" read-only
</snip> I need that append line because if I don't, the detection code finds the ISDN card at irq 15 and interferes with the secondary IDE.
Any suggestions?
