Hi there..
I've got an AMD 386dx40 which I'm currently using as a ppp/masq gateway for my small lan at home. Anyway, I am concerned about the following things.
ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol inet addr:203.108.221.28 P-t-P:203.108.221.15 Mask:255.255.255.255 UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:5566 errors:395 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:394 TX packets:6848 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 Memory:c02a101c-c02a1be8
I seem to be getting a lot of frame errors.. What does this mean? When the load average is very high, the frame errors tend to get a lot more frequent.. For example, when the daily cron job is running (updatedb), the loadavg goes through the roof, and playing quake from another box over the masq connection becomes unusable. Also I noted that I always have a receive error as soon as I log in (maybe the first packet through the ppp device stuffs up somehow).
Also, I have noticed a lot of those "IP_MASQ failed checksum from xxxx" in the logs and wondered what is causing this..
I hear some of you saying "get a real computer then", but I have zero problems with 2.0.34-6, which can handle the above tasks rather well, and seems much more snappier to boot.
Cheers,
Dave.
PS.. I can send anyone my .config if thats required.. I'm also wondering about that CPU is too slow to handle full bandwidth config option. (which I've set)
