I have tried with cdparanoia alpha III prerelease 6 and with readcdda (the one that comes with xcdroast), having recompiled both of them doesn't help. The system load the modules and then totally freeze, no keyboard response (even CTRL+ALT+DEL), having to reset by hand. The CD led doesn't light on. It doesn't happen with 2.1.92 & aic7xxx 5.0.8, and it DOES happen with 2.1.95 + aic7xxx 5.0.12 and with 2.1.96pre1.
My system is : PII 300 (oc 4x75) dual Supermicro P6DLS board AIC7880 in board Pionner 24x Traxdata CDR 4120 IBM 4.3 UW AWE32
if it helps I would send my kernel configuration.
