I _did_ have the same problem on locat storage, only to go away
with a 'make clean'.

Alpha 2.1.87

it seems alpha related since my notebook (running 2.1.94) does not
have the same problem.

Both the Alpha and the notebook have been patched up from an
old tarball 41? orso..
