I disagree Caldera is making $$$ by making a linux distrib and slapping a
pretty xwindows interfavce on it and charging $125 us for it.

I run the #linux channel on starchat, I find myself spending a lot
of time walking newbies through linux installations on thgeir pcs and
usually it's not for use as a server.

On this machine Linux is the only os, it's a whole lot less aggravating
then win95 was, the closest I come is Novell dos (now caldera dos)
installed in dosemu. The only reason I keep the servers on this machine is
so that when I'm bored I can learn something new. :)

I also seem to recall an attampt to make money by copyrighting the name
Linux as a "desktop operating system"

Depends who you talk to.

I can't tell you how many times this machine has gone down because somone
fired up X on another console while leaving dosemu open. Changing from X
to a text mode console is a roll of the dice with almost tolerable odds.
X to dosemu or svgalib almost allways crashes.

Sure it's a great server. But a lot of people are using it for games, and
as a win95 replacement.

ps not one word about the sysrq funcions to change back to text more there
is no possible way I can teach the people who crash this machine how to
use them.

As a computer I find your faith in technology amusing.
