Presumably for the Sparc and Alpha gear this kind of hardware would be more common?
Yes, at least on the Sparc their most common 100baseT card checksums TCP on receive and send. Currently the driver can only take advantage of the checksums on receive, when a machanism is designed into the stack to DMA TCP data directly from user pages, we can use the sending checksum computation mechanism as well.
