I have a OPTi C930 based soundcard (MediaMagic ISP-16). It was never supported well by the Linux kernel. Only Quake and Quake II can produce normal sound with it. All other programs (KDE sound system, qrash demo, etc.) don't work with it (as far as I remember, they play a start of sound and then begin repeating it many times). 2.1.65 at least lets me listen the nasty Quake sounds :-) But 2.1.88, 89, and, most likely, all 2.1.7x and 2.1.8x kernels don't compile when I turn on MAD16 support (linking problems - undefined symbols). I tried hacking Makefile in drivers/sound, but it didn't help... I made it compile by adding required sb objects and commenting out EXPORT_SYMTABs in their sources. cat /dev/sndstat showed that there's MAD16 driver, but nothing more (no DSP etc.). And of course, there was no sound. Is anyone planning to fix MAD16 support ? Ivan Shvedunov <ivan_iv@rf-hp.npi.msu.su>
