Im not sure what is the right approach. I'm hoping the fact AMD talk to Linux people a bit now may help since AMD licensed the chip. I don't think its an act of malice, VIA just don't appear to listen or we've yet to find the right earhole.
On top of that except for these ISA DMA bugs in the older chips the VIA chipsets seem to be very good
