This is way out of topic for problems with make modules_install, but it occurred to me recently that the normal locations for the System.map file could be better. Since we already keep the modules separated by versions in /lib/modules/xx.xx.xx, why not include the System.map file there as well? A one-line add to ksym.c in the sysklogd package would add support.
Just an out-of-the-blue thought.
