On a somewhat similar note, I think it would be convenient if the dominant use of a particular codepage was listed to the right of the codepage number. I realize this is redundant WRT Configure.help, but it certainly (in my opinion) makes selecting codepages more intuitive and quicker.
Example:
<M> Codepage 437 (United States, Canada) <M> Codepage 737 (Greek)
etc. Also, I realize that that's not consistent in terms of languages versus countries, but it seemed to make sense.
For what it's worth, here is a patch that inserts comments like the above into fs/nls/Config.in for kernel 2.1.129:
