Hi all,
with kernel 2.0.34 (source straight from RH 5.1) with APM and PCMCIA enabled, using a UMC8886BF IDE controller and hda: IBM-DDLA-21620, 1551MB w/96kB Cache, CHS=3152/16/63 on an Olivetti Echos 133EM laptop, I get the following symptoms: - hard disk accesses cease for a moment and a process (say, LaTeX) waits for them; - the kernel gets angry, reports hda: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy } then resets the IDE bus and reports ide0: reset: success Does anybody have an idea on this stupid behaviour? This shouldn't be the BIOS turning off the HD when idle: I was definitely not idle at the moment. And, anyway, it shouldn't freeze the machine for several seconds.
